TRH TestHow its done For 24 hours prior to the test, youll be asked to avoid drugs that can affect the results, including aspirin, corticosteroids and iodine-containing drugs and vitamins. Blood is drawn and sent to a lab to check levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
Thyroid-stimulating hormone TestA standard reference range is not available for this test. Because reference values are dependent on many factors, including patient age, gender, sample population, and test method, numeric test results have different meanings in different labs. Your lab report should include the specific reference range for your test. Lab Tests Online strongly recommends that you discuss your test results with your doctor.
TRH Test. In normal people thyroid-stimulating hormone secretion from the pituitary can be increased by giving a shot containing TSH Releasing Hormone (TRH...the hormone released by the hypothalamus which tells the pituitary to produce TSH). A baseline thyroid-stimulating hormone of 5 or less usually goes up to 10-20 after giving an injection of TRH. Patients with too much thyroid hormone (thyroxine or triiodothyronine) will not show a rise in thyroid-stimulating hormone when given TRH. This TRH test is presently the most sensitive test in detecting early hyperthyroidism. Patients who show too much response to TRH (thyroid-stimulating hormone rises greater than 40) may be hypothyroid. This test is also used in cancer patients who are taking thyroid replacement to see if they are on sufficient medication. It is sometimes used to measure if the pituitary gland is functioning.
![]() 2009-01-03 Whats the best way to kick-start my metabolismWhat could cause a big drop in your metabolism If you lost a lot of weight, your metabolism could drop because you simply need fewer calories because of your smaller size. If you lost weight very quickly by significantly undereating (undereating would be considered less than 1,200 calories, which it does not sound like you did if you were eating 1,600 calories per day), you might see a temporary drop in metabolism, and this could respond to a moderate increase in calories, but I dont think thats the case for you. And finally, a medical condition such as underactive thyroid could cause a significant drop in metabolism, so if you have noticed increased fatigue, hair loss, constipation, weight gain or dry skin, you may want to talk to your doctor about getting a simple blood test to make sure that your thyroid is not underactive. Is it true that when your metabolism slows down (e. g. from exercise, age, etc. ), adding calories proportionally will "kick-start" it back to prior fat-burning levels In my case, my rate slowed from 2,000 to 1,500, and the gyms nutritionist recommended an increase in calories from 1,600 to 1,900. 2008-12-22 Kazakhs cursed by fallout from nuclear weapons tests - The National NewspaperFrom 1963 the tests were carried out underground and they continued until 1989. That year residents of Semey, better known internationally by its Russian name, Semipalatinsk, joined with the people of Nevada, which had a nuclear testing site that operated over a similar time to the Polygon, to express their outrage. Protests forced the authorities to stop the testing, but by that time 456 nuclear explosions had been carried out, exposing many living around the Polygon to radiation beyond what their bodies could cope with. It is estimated that as many as one million people have been affected. Its been two decades since the Soviet Union ended a nuclear test programme close to Semey, but the explosions left a sinister legacy of cancer, birth defects, infertility and other abnormalities. - Thenational thenational. ae newspaper english uae abu dhabi emirates news admc adu dhabi media company paper daily dailynews news
2008-12-24 Sonoelastography and Musculoskeletal ImagingMusculoskeletal radiologists are moving toward more quantitative, functional studies. But they need the right imaging tools to explain how MSK structures work instead of simply describing their appearance. Elastography, performed by ultrasound or MRI, has emerged as a way to characterize the mechanical properties of tissue. It has been praised as a useful diagnostic tool in breast, prostate, cervix, and thyroid applications. Researchers from Austria, Italy, and Egypt are evaluating several possible ultrasound elastography applications in musculoskeletal radiology, which will benefit anyone if the test is proven effective. - Used medical equipment medical mammography laproscopy laboratory imaging hospital equipment gastroscope equipment ENT endoscopy endoscopic EKG ECG doctor dialysis diagnostic dental
2008-12-22 Alzheimers test is a matter of memory, some argue -Failing such a test doesnt mean someone has dementia. But it signals there might be a problem with short-term memory that should be checked by a doctor. Maybe its something fixable, such as depression or thyroid disease. Maybe it is an Alzheimers warning sign. Or maybe the person just isnt a good test taker. Five-minute mini-tests, doable at a health fair, are hugely controversial. But the provocative new report from the Alzheimers Foundation of America contends theyre a valuable but overlooked tool. The government has begun reviewing whether theres enough science to back broader use of them. Theres no mammogram or PSA test for Alzheimers disease. Yet an Alzheimers group this month began a push for simple memory screenings in a bid to catch possible warning signs of dementia sooner. - Diseases Health Alzheimers Disease Nevada nat health main news

2008-12-18 Seegene Awarded Patent for Haplotyping Using Multiplex PCR - MarketWatchSeegenes DPO technology can be broadly applied to most any genetic test. In addition to DPOs application to ApoE haplotyping, DPO has successfully been applied to various SNPs and somatic single nucleotide mutations detection, including simultaneous two SNP sites genotyping of MTHFR gene for hyperhomocysteimemia, BRAF gene for thyroid cancer, CYP2C19 for drug metabolism, Lamivudine resistant HBV, and JAK2/FLT3 for leukemia. Currently, Seegene is actively seeking targets to apply DPO technology for the performance of detailed genetic analysis.

2008-12-15 Dog needs healthy outlet to replace bad behaviorDog needs healthy outlet to replace bad behavior However, one medical condition you should eliminate is an underactive thyroid. This breed is one of the more commonly afflicted, and a simple blood test by your veterinarian could detect this disease. If that comes back negative, the old standby of gradual calorie restriction and increasing activity levels should begin to help. One pound a month is a good rate for a dog this size. If those all fail, ask your veterinarian about some new medical options that could help get the ball rolling and get some pounds off. 2008-12-14 Toxic Chemical Doesnt Preclude Life on MarsPerchlorate is an ion consisting of a central chlorine atom surrounded by four oxygen atoms. It is found naturally on Earth in very arid locations such as the Atacama Desert in Chile. Compounds formed with perchlorate ions are stable and do not destroy organic material under normal conditions. However, they can interfere with normal thyroid function in humans and also can be a byproduct of industrial pollution, strengthening perchlorates reputation as a harmful chemical here on Earth. Researchers involved in analyzing the data collected by NASAs Phoenix Mars Lander claim that the discovery of perchlorate on the planets surface doesnt rule out the possibility of finding microbial life on Mars. Perchlorate is a weak oxidant used in rocket fuel and airbags (among other things) that can be harmful to life here on Earth under some circumstances.
