TRH TestHow its done For 24 hours prior to the test, youll be asked to avoid drugs that can affect the results, including aspirin, corticosteroids and iodine-containing drugs and vitamins. Blood is drawn and sent to a lab to check levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
Thyroid-stimulating hormone TestA standard reference range is not available for this test. Because reference values are dependent on many factors, including patient age, gender, sample population, and test method, numeric test results have different meanings in different labs. Your lab report should include the specific reference range for your test. Lab Tests Online strongly recommends that you discuss your test results with your doctor.
TRH Test. In normal people thyroid-stimulating hormone secretion from the pituitary can be increased by giving a shot containing TSH Releasing Hormone (TRH...the hormone released by the hypothalamus which tells the pituitary to produce TSH). A baseline thyroid-stimulating hormone of 5 or less usually goes up to 10-20 after giving an injection of TRH. Patients with too much thyroid hormone (thyroxine or triiodothyronine) will not show a rise in thyroid-stimulating hormone when given TRH. This TRH test is presently the most sensitive test in detecting early hyperthyroidism. Patients who show too much response to TRH (thyroid-stimulating hormone rises greater than 40) may be hypothyroid. This test is also used in cancer patients who are taking thyroid replacement to see if they are on sufficient medication. It is sometimes used to measure if the pituitary gland is functioning.

2010-03-06 Mets to Send Reyes to New York for Thyroid TestsDoctors first noticed thyroid abnormalities in blood tests during Reyess annual physical in February. Reyes was given further tests Wednesday morning and examined by a doctor here, where the Mets train. The doctor diagnosed an overactive thyroid and cleared him to play. But when the Mets doctors in New York reviewed the laboratory results, they recommended more tests in New York. Doctors will also often perform tests to look for growths in the thyroid gland that could make it overactive. But McConnell said that Graves disease does not have any correlation to thyroid cancer and that use of human growth hormone, which is banned in baseball, does not cause an overactive thyroid. The Mets pushed back Jose Reyess spring training debut indefinitely while the 26-year-old shortstop has tests on his thyroid gland. - Thyroid Gland Baseball New York Mets Minaya Omar Reyes Jose

2010-02-27 WEBCommentary(tm) - Sharron Angle, Danny Tarkanian, or Sue LowdenWhen my first one had been done while on active duty, and my second was done by a private hospital. I had a "doctor" at the VA that told me that my hypothyroidism - which I believe was precipitated by the anthrax shots - is asymptomatic. And I have empirical evidence of this, too. I walked around for years with hypothyroidism and no thyroid medication. While voters are not bound to support the eventual primary winner, I do believe that the other candidates are bound to honor the results of the contest. If you arent going to abide by the results of a contest, then dont enter. If the Holy Ghost descends upon Nevada and Lowden wins the primary, the jury is still out for me on supporting her.
