The prevalence of enteric bacteria is an indicator of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water run-off, wildlife, pets and human sewage. Samples of beach water collected at Crandon Park did not meet the criteria for bacteria, as recommended by the Florida Department of Health. The department said it is required to issue an advisory to inform the public in a specific area when the test samples come in high. That included the two feed tests and four tests taken from walkways or other areas.
