Earlier this week, test results showed elevated levels of mold spores inside the school. Classes were cancelled Thursday and Friday, as tests are being conducted at all Cherokee County Schools. However, results of surface samples taken from the buildings themselves came back positive. 2010-08-23 Northwest station to stay closed into October - The Buffalo NewsEarlier this year, an officer based in the station on Hertel filed a complaint that the building had mold growing in it. The city temporarily closed the facility on . Subsequent air tests commissioned by the city determined that there were no hazardous levels of mold or asbestos in the building. A professional engineering consulting firm was hired to conduct sampling to determine what the extent of the potential mold issues were, said fire Chief George Glenn. Glenn said the environmental firms results identified various types of mold in the firefighters living areas of the facility. The court portion of the building is less involved, but some mold types are present, Glenn said. The city is currently moving forward with remediation efforts.
