![]() 2007-03-18 NewsIf you are testing the air to find out if you have a mold problem, then you are missing 2/3 to 3/4 of the problem. Mold does not always go airborne, especially if it lies undisturbed in moist, or tightly compacted places. Like old files, that probably havent been disturbed for years. I feel sorry for Chief Sibbrell, he is in the less than 30 pct. of the population that normally might not react to mold, even the dreaded "Toxic Stachybotrys". If indeed he is reacting to mold at all. It takes a true forensic examination to determine the cause of someones environmental illness. A)Is the cause of the illness definitely identified B) Is the identified cause of the illness located in the suspect place of contamination C)Are there any other possible causes of the illness D)Are there any other places of possible contamination, other
2007-03-20 Printed Circuit Board Cleanliness Testing Design NewsQMR was not the initial supplier for the test cell but Foresite challenged QMR to solve inconsistent vacuum reading and cleanliness problems. QMR engineers increased the cooling area in the mold to improve dimensional control, revised a portion of the molding operation for improved cleanliness and used a higher grade of medical grade polypropylene. With these modifications, the test cells have a 50 percent improvement in vacuum, testing consistently at 24 inches of Hg, and pass Foresites molded part cleanliness specification. www.designnews.com Examining for contamination in a localized area of a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly can be a critical part of process control in a manufacturing facility. Foresite Inc. makes a Localized Ionic Cleanliness Tester and Monitoring Tool called the C3 that simplifies the task.
2007-03-31 PIB Press ReleaseIn India for routine diagnosis for typhoid disease Widal test is performed with single serum sample which does not provide the correct diagnosis of infection. Therefore a Latex agglutination based test has been developed at DRDE, Gwalior using recombinant DNA technology and immunological technique for rapid diagnosis of typhoid infection. The test detects S typhi antigen directly in patients serum within 1-3 minutes which is very important for initiating early treatment and saving human life. The collaborative work between DRDO and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has resulted in increasing the sensitivity of the test by 30 times by applying a small electric charge (1. 5 V). - Press information bureau government of india pib press releases features photogallery archives
2007-03-25 Ars Technica: G4 Cube and Cinema Display - Page 3 - (10/2000)My theory from the start has been that these are manufacturing defects caused by the difficulty of molding such a large single piece of clear plastic. That seems to be confirmed by what Ive read from self-proclaimed plastics experts on the web. Apple is sticking to the "mold lines" nomenclature for obvious reasons: a "crack" is a defect, while a "mold line" or "knit line" is simply a "side-effect of manufacturing. " But the bottom line is that its a PR problem for Apple. Supposedly the problem is "fixed" now, which I translate to mean that the number of Cube cases coming out of the factory with these hairline surface cracks is decreasing as the manufacturing process is refined. I cant imagine them ever being eliminated entirely without a change in materials or a huge increase in manufacturing cost (e. g. throwing Ars Technica. 2007-03-21 LRRS To Use Spec Fuels in 2007 News Article //All riders are required to use VP spec fuel during all LRRS activities. This includes not only the races but also all Saturday and Sunday practice sessions. Random testing may be done at any time once the first practice goes green on Saturday. LRRS officials, in conjunction with VP technical personnel, will perform all tests at the track. In the event of a protest where fuel is in question and a laboratory test is required, a protest fee schedule and procedure will be announced at the first race weekend of 2007 during the Saturday riders meeting. At the discretion of LRRS officials, penalties for noncompliance may result in fines and/or license suspension for blatant violations.
2007-03-04 The Daily Advertiser Lafayette, LAStudents have tested 21 houses using a vacuum testing process to assess whether mold is present. Testers drill a small hole into a specific area of a wall and place a tube inside. The tube will trap mold as it is vacuumed out of the wall and through testing, and the degree and amount of mold present in a home can be assessed, Massiha said, noting that the test takes about 20 minutes. The project, spearheaded by UL professors G. H. Massiha and Herbert Hebert of the Department of Industrial Technology, began earlier this year and is sponsored by the UL Systems grant, that allows the department and its students to do innerwall testing of homes that may have mold damage as a result of Hurricane Rita and flooding. 2007-03-08The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention doesnt recommended that people test for mold or sample mold to determine the strain if toxic mold contamination is suspected. Testing is simply too expensive. And mold carries health risks regardless of the strain. Health department workers, who did not want to go on record, or mention their names, said that children have had asthma attack flare-ups while visiting the department and others have complained of cold-like symptoms. Some workers said that they blame the mold for recent illnesses and one employee suspects that mold coats vast areas of wood, drywall, carpeting and plumbing in the building that the health department has occupied since 2001. Several agencies are housed in the Mill Beach Road building including the health department. Last month, Curry County Health and Human Services open an office in the same space.

Even when the results showed 10-times more mold outside the building than the air inside, some still called for closing the building, prompting Wissing to respond. She recalled the exchange, ". and I finally said, where are you going to go if its 10 times worse outside the building than inside You know, whats the deal. " The mold remediation, or removal, is now complete. Now comes the other hard part, replacing all the drywall, for example, that had to be torn out to get to the mold. Total cost of the project Greenwoods Chief Financial Officer Angela Carroll estimated its going to be about usd. 12,000. But those here said it is worth every penny. Bids are now going out to complete those post-mold repairs.

The room-size test facility can be customized to approximate any room in a home, such as a kitchen, bath, living room/den, home office or bedroom with appropriate fixtures. Testing protocols permit real-time measurements of airborne chemicals, ozone, biological allergens (mold and animal allergens) and dust. Air Quality Sciences, Inc. is a fully integrated indoor air quality (IAQ) company that provides solutions to create healthy indoor environments and avoid potentially dangerous indoor pollution. As the only IAQ firm with internal labs that are both ISO 9001:2000 registered and AIHA EMLAP accredited, AQS sets the standard for effective diagnoses and solutions. AQS also is a test laboratory for both the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute and the Blue Angel Labeling programs, which provide independent, third party certification for low-emitting products used indoors. 2007-03-29 Amador Ledger DispatchAt Ione Elementary, one room was found to have one mold spore. The room was completed and retested and is now clean. In the other room, inspection and testing found that a higher than usual level of allergen/mold was present. When health officials review a report on mold testing results, they check to make sure the indoor count of allergens is less than the outdoor count and that the species indoor and outdoor are the same. They also look to identify if spores are slow growing or fast growing. www.ledger-dispatch.com
