stress test

Its true. Stress is often thought of in a negative light--and with good reason. However, stress, both physical and emotional, also helps your body stay active and alert, more prepared for obstacles it may face. Two hormones, DHEA and cortisol, are your bodys main forces for coping with stress. The balance of these hormones can affect how you handle the overwhelming feeling that stress can bring.

A stress test, sometimes called a treadmill test or exercise test, helps a doctor find out how well your heart handles work. As your body works harder during the test, it requires more oxygen, so the heart must pump more blood. The test can show if the blood supply is reduced in the arteries that supply the heart. It also helps doctors know the kind and level of exercise appropriate for a patient.

During the test, the electrical activity of the heart is measured while you walk on a treadmill or pedal a stationary bicycle. This measures the hearts reaction to your bodys increased demand for oxygen.

2010-09-02 Pakistan trio facing axe from tour after crisis summit with PCB Sport The Guardian

Along with the wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal, the three players were implicated in a betting scam in which they were alleged to have been paid by Majeed to deliberately bowl no-balls during specific overs of the fourth Test against England at Lords. As a sign of the confusion within the Pakistan camp, the team management appeared conflicted over the exact timing of the meeting, with one official last night insisting it would go ahead on Thursday while others expected it to happen tomorrow. Regardless of the timing, the trio will then return to Taunton where the tourists are due to play a warm-up match against Somerset on Thursday.

2010-08-31 Lets get physical: Long, taxing season arrives at toughest test

Research using electromyography comparing a variety of overhead throwing motions the baseball pitch, football throw, the windmill softball pitch, the volleyball serve and spike, baseball hitting and the golf swing has shown that the tennis serve can put the greatest amount of stress on the rotator cuff, according to Anthony Luke, associate professor and director of the University of California San Franciscos primary care sports medicine program.

The survivors of the U. S. Open fortnight, which begins today, will be tested as much for their ability to perform under pressure as for their ability to withstand the cumulative physical grind that began in January.

2010-08-30 England vulnerable: Ponting

Alastair Cook saved his career with a second innings hundred (at the Oval against Pakistan) while (Kevin) Pietersen has not made a Test hundred in nearly 12 months, which is pretty remarkable when you consider the quality of player he is.

Those cracks have again been on show in the fourth Test between England and Pakistan at Lords. Strauss (13), Cook (10), Pietersen (0) and Morgan (0) all failed in the first innings, leaving Trott and tailender Stuart Broad to revive their side with centuries.

2010-08-29 Stress test success may fire ECB supervision thrust Reuters

The ECB certainly pushed for the stress tests so in that sense they won the hand, especially the one to publish the results which was something the Germans were very anti to," said Credit Suisse economist Christel Aranda-Hassel.

The ECBs role in recent European bank stress tests may give it further confidence to flex its muscles within the ESRB.

While the tests were run by CEBS, the tiny London-based Committee of European Banking Supervisors set to become the EBA, the ECB provided "substantial behind the scenes help" says Nicolas Veron from the Bruegel think tank in Brussels.

2010-08-24 US delays missile-zapping laser test for 4th time Reuters

The goal is to destroy a simulated enemy ballistic missile in flight more than 100 miles away, or about twice the range demonstrated in a maiden test on using a chemical oxygen iodine laser aboard the jumbo jet. The laser heats the boosting ballistic missiles skin, weakening it and causing failure from high-speed flight stress.

Boeing, the prime contractor, said in February that the systems initial success, in a test against a short-range missile in its boost phase, had "blazed a path for a new generation of high-energy, ultra-precision weaponry. " Some experts have said it could have potential use against enemy fighter aircraft, cruise missiles or even low-earth orbit satellites.

Hypo Real Estate, BNP, SocGen Hold Most Greek Sovereign Debt

Hypo Real Estate was one of the seven out of 91 EU banks that failed the stress test because they lacked adequate reserves to maintain a Tier 1 capital ratio of at least 6 percent in the event of a recession and sovereign-debt crisis. European banking stocks, including BNP Paribas and Societe Generale, have fallen this year amid concern Greece may default.

Hypo Real Estate held 7. 9 billion euros ( usd. 10 billion) of Greek government bonds in March, the Commission said in a report today, citing data from the EU and rsquo;s bank stress tests published last month. BNP Paribas held 5 billion euros of debt and Societe Generale had 4. 2 billion euros.

2010-08-19 Stress test: Digital asserts its dominance in the stress test sector

Its not just stress tests (that are moving toward digital)," says Gordon Huckestein, general manager of EdanUSA. "Its every diagnostic test out there. Everything is migrating toward the PC because of the fact that doctors are required to have a medical record system. That is really driving the growth. "

The move toward digital technology is infiltrating the cardiac stress testing market - and fast. While 75 percent of the market still uses a traditional stress test, professionals in the industry expect a complete transition to digital within three to five years.

2010-08-17 Stabroek News - The enigma of global financial markets: Stress testing worked as bank failures intensify

One of these is to the effect that the test was rigged. It has been labelled a whitewash, cover-up, and PR exercise conducted by the Treasury and the Federal Reserve. Some critics have claimed collusion between the authorities and the banks, criticizing the former for setting low standards and failing to publish concrete metrics on the vulnerabilities of particular banks. In response, the authorities published a 20 page report on the test last April (2009) to support their claim that there was no evidence indicating impending insolvency in any of the 19 banks stress-tested.
