AIDS is a sexually transmitted viral disease

AIDS is a sexually transmitted disease that is caused by the HIV virus. The HIV virus destroys the bodys ability to fight infections.

The HIV virus spreads primarily through shared blood. Transmitted under sexual activity or shared needles used by an HIV infected drug user.

HIV infected people or people who have AIDS have a weak immune system and their body cannot fight the disease.

Early signs include extreme tiredness and fever. During later stages of AIDS, cancer or pneumonia may lead to the AIDS infected death.

At the moment are there no cure for AIDS, but there are medications that can keep it somewhat under control by slowing the AIDS virus progress.

2009-01-06 Nigeria: HIV And Employability (Page 1 of 1)

Perhaps many top company executives still see themselves as immune to HIV infection hence they continue to conduct HIV test on their employees indiscriminately and fire those who test positive. Sadly, they are among the groups considered most vulnerable to HIV infection. The men among them are very mobile. They are rich and attractive. They can hardly take their hearts off stranded campus girls. They are equally the attraction of sophisticated commercial sex workers. They can never be bold enough to test for HIV, but wont blink before showing any one who has tested positive the way out of the organisation.

2009-01-05 How can we uphold the right to science

Similarly, a Bangladeshi program to combat arsenic contamination in water, also launched in the late 1990s, has improved living standards. Chemists, hydrologists and environmental engineers have tested over a million potentially contaminated sites, trained locals to test for arsenic, improved public awareness about the dangers of drinking arsenic-contaminated water and built hundreds of safe water supplies.

For example, a Brazilian program aimed at giving HIV/AIDS patients low-cost generic drugs has improved the right to health in that country. Since the late 1990s, the number of AIDS-related deaths in Brazil has been halved, common infections in HIV/AIDS patients have been reduced by 60 percent to 80 percent, and hospitalization rates have decreased, as have medical care costs.

Industrial psychologist aids in hiring process

I have relied on industrial psychologists to sort out complexities of a hire. According to the American Management Association, more than two-thirds of U. S. companies use some form of job-skills testing and 29 percent use other forms of personality testing.

In todays tough economic times, its even more important to make sure that job candidates are a good fit. Fortunately, its a lot easier to get business candidates to test than it is to get 19-year-old athletes to do likewise.

They realize that the performance of their choices will depend as much on personal qualities as on raw physical talent. - Industrial psychologist aids in hiring process

2009-01-04 Hopoate faces dilemma as HIV-tainted fighter throws down gauntlet - Sport

Hed be tested for HIV one and two, Hepatitis B and C. If he has it (HIV) youd want to protect his opponent. Assuming he did have HIV, I would be concerned even sitting ringside. If he had HIV and was cut you would be worried about his blood going into your eyes. A boxers artery can be severed during a fight and his blood spurts everywhere. If Morrison had HIV its a serious concern because the nature of boxing - it is a blood sport - means it has the potential to be very risky.

The testing is part of the HIV/Aids Integrated Management and Support Project at NMMU campuses in the Eastern and Southern Cape, the aim of which is to reduce the risk of spreading the virus, and the university succeeded in 2007 in securing funding from the European Union for testing and, if required, post-test support and treatment.

At the end of 2007 the university had submitted a proposal to the Higher Education AIDS Project. We were one of several other SA institutes who received funding from the European Union for the HIV testing, said Goosen.

2009-01-04 News HIV suspicions are doctors dilemma

Her request is simple: When her husband comes in for his physical (scheduled a few weeks from now), she would like me to slip in an HIV screening test with all the routine bloodwork we do. If the test is negative, well and good and ndash; but if its positive, she has asked me to find some way to let her know, perhaps just some sign that wouldnt violate confidentiality but would let her know whats going on.
