Review of Other Substance-Drugs
Other Substance - Drugs identifying these signs early may help to avert their developing substance abuse problems. Alerting their parents to the possibility of developing problems may deter or delay substance use and make early detection more likely. Risk Factors for Substance Use, Abuse and Dependence Both animal and human research provide evidence that abused substances derive their dependency producing properties from their reinforcing effects on the central nervous system. If a dependence producing substance is taken often enough and in large enough quantities, most people will become dependent on it. However, there are also large individual differences in susceptibility to the development of a substance use disorder. What is drug and substance abuse Substance abuse is the overindulgence in and dependence on an addictive substance, especially alcohol or a narcotic drug, amphetamine, barbituratem, cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine Ecstasy, Morphine Opiates, Benzodiazepine. Also called chemical abuse, substance abuse is a pervasive problem in the United States today. The substances abused can be illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine, or legal substances used improperly, such as prescription drugs and inhalants like nail polish or gasoline.
![]() 2010-09-01 We need to know drug test results: Mick Malthouse Herald SunDear Mick, forget about the AFL, they aint gonna tell you nuthin. Heres what to do, quite simple really. Write a clause in each players contract titled; Professional Employee Behaviour Standards. Then in plain English spell it out that if they use illegal or illicit drugs, then they will not work for the Collingwood FC one second after being caught, the first time. These dummies might be registered by the AFL but they work for, are employed by, the club. Make them sign it as professional salary earners, not role models as they hate to be called, but as workers. Do your own testing, the AFL are not going to give you any info from theirs, as you said. Sure it might cost more, but not as much as horror PR and bye bye sponsors. Can the AFL or AFLPA stop you from sacking them over a breach of trust, or non compliance Well apparently COLLINGWOOD coach Mick Malthouse has called for a review of the AFLs drugs code, saying clubs need to be informed sooner of positive tests. - Mick Malthouse help informant Collingwood Travis Tuck drugs Didak Prestigiacomo club

2010-08-23 Prescription drug abuse expanding The Columbus DispatchSouthern Ohio in particular Scioto and Adams counties have been on the front lines in the fight against prescription drug abuse. Overdose-related deaths are off the charts in that region. Authorities say clinics that hand out prescription painkillers like candy have popped up on street corners like mushrooms in a side yard after a rainy day. The charges against the couple have since been dropped, as is often the case, pending a likely grand-jury indictment. Nevertheless, officials say the case shows that an epidemic of prescription drug abuse isnt happening only in southern Ohio. 2010-08-16 Project 50 and housing first programs: Helping the homelessThe best answers to this debate will come through careful research. My colleagues and I are evaluating a similar program in New York City, which three years ago began the effort to house 500 chronically homeless individuals with alcohol and drug-abuse problems. While the results of this study are forthcoming, our initial findings on this and similar programs can help inform the current debate. Certainly, the program has done a good job of providing stable housing. In New York City, 84 pct. of the active alcohol and drug-user population remained in housing 18 months after the start of the program, a figure that was higher than another housing program that required clients to get substance-abuse treatment. These results are consistent with other research on the subject. Initial findings on housing first programs, such as Project 50 in Los Angeles, show that they may be a solution to chronic homelessness and possibly save taxpayer money. - Commentary opinion
